Trained as a marine engineer in Canada in his youth, David helped build the world’s first privately-owned submarine, the August Picard, and served as its chief engineer for three years. He also supervised the engineering reconstruction of numerous historic sailing ships, including the schooner Star Pilot and the 1912 schooner Invader, and was part of the crew that sailed the Invader from San Diego to Acapulco, Mexico in 1997. David currently runs a small business that helps develop intellectual property for high-tech companies. In addition, he and a friend designed and built the first 12-hour SCUBA Limpet rebreather.
