Local Marine Scientists Write Exciting Adventure Book
The Spark in the Sea, a collection of true sea stories, offers the reader the adventure and wonder of marine science

San Diego, CA September 15, 2003: Organized as a fundraiser to support its educational programs, the San Diego Section of the Marine Technology Society (MTS) has harnessed one of their greatest resources—the sea adventure story. The end result is The Spark in the Sea, a collection of daring personal tales by MTS members and other local marine scientists. From racing a submarine through a storm for a million dollar prize, to being attacked be a giant ray, to telepathically communicating with dolphins, to being the first people to see the Titanic in its watery grave, the reader soon learns that marine science is anything but boring.

About The Spark in the Sea

Interacting with the ocean builds character. The Spark in the Sea is an inspirational work that contains 17 short stories of high adventure about record setting deep dives, surviving huge storms in a navy dirigible, an international submarine race, and miraculous recoveries and discoveries, and even has a couple of tales involving sea monsters. Edited by David J. Horrigan and written by celebrated marine scientists, technicians, explorers, and pioneers, the contributors are: Mark Barnum, Larry Brady, Scott Cassell, Norm Estabrook, Keith Hinrichsen, David Horrigan, Amos Jessup, Tom Lang, Jayne Martin, Peter Niiler, Andreas Rechnitzer, Robert Wernli and Ralph White.

All the stories in The Spark in the Sea are true. A portion of the proceeds from this book go to the educational and scholarship programs offered by the San Diego Section of the Martine Technology Society.
